ENTREPRENEURS: 5 Businesses Ideas

PET SITTING? Nope. Just looked out the window of our Flagstaff place and saw these lawnmowers at work. Who said technology takes jobs away?

 1.  DRIVE-THRU ENTREES -- Parents are only getting busier; so you can do your part and help them out. Be the next best thing to a private chef.

2.  CURBSIDE NUMBER PAINTING -- Any kid or adult can make a few bucks, especially in retirement communities, where a clearly painted house number on the curb will let ambulances find you sooner (Is that morbid? Sorry, but we all have emergencies.) Delivery drivers can also find you faster. And the U.S. Post Office has one less excuse.

3.) PET SITTING -- Nothing original here, and there's no shortage of pet parents looking for attentive sitters, especially during holiday travel. Have you posted your pet-sit ad yet?

Bernese Mountain Dogs, such as Eddy, are easy to care for, though they tend toward formal dress.

4.)  SEO -- Yeah, you. Many small businesses are in need of page one search engine exposure, the new phonebook. They also need constant content for their SEO but they simply don’t want to complicate their lives and dive into managing social media. You don't need to be an expert. Just talk with the boss and ask her or him about their target audience, aka, customers. Do some research to match the right platform with the type of business you're helping. Provide a schedule with sample content.  Even if you know nothing about SEO, you can learn basics for free in a few weeks. YouTube tutorials are easy and quick ways to learn. Select the videos with the most views. Just don't tell anyone you're an "expert". Things are changing too fast for anyone to be an expert in all forms of social media.  As with any dynamic system, there will always be unknowns.

5.)  SUNDAY MORNING BAGELS -- Deliver Sunday bagels and a newspaper. What a nostalgic way to relax, kicking back with a warm bagel and a newspaper made of authentic paper. My sister's friend at Duke University made a bundle doing this for a business class. There was still a need for her service, but she quit when she got an A. So there's no competition. Go for it.
